Upset of the Week
Archbishop Spalding (Md.) snapped Boys’ Latin (Md.) two-game winning streak with a 9-5 win last week. Jake Oliver made 13 saves and Russell Melendez had two goals and two assists in the win for Spalding.
The Cavaliers entered the game with one win in MIAA A Conference play and are out of the conference playoff hunt. The Lakers, however, now run the risk of missing the playoffs entirely. They play Gilman (Md.) and St. Paul’s (Md.) and need to win one of those to make the playoffs. They could still finish as high as third.
Achievement of the Week
Tommy Bloom surpassed the known-and-reported marks for the most points and goals in Delaware history last week. The Sanford (Del.) senior scored six goals and two assists in a 14-6 win over Tower Hill (Del.) to bring his career totals to 336 career points on 212 career goals. The previous records were 325 points and 202 goals by Andrew Pettit of Tower Hill (Del.).
Keystone State Teams Streaking
Springfield-Delco (Pa.) is on a 12-game winning streak after defeating Strath Haven (Pa.) 10-9 last week. The Cougars have not lost since an April 2 overtime loss to Garnet Valley (Pa.) and are 15-1. Jack Spence scored four goals in the Strath Haven (Pa.) win. A meeting with Conestoga (Pa.) looms on May 7.
Conestoga (Pa.) has won six-straight games, including wins over La Salle College (Pa.) and Garnet Valley (Pa.). The Pioneers also have wins over Penn Charter (Pa.) and Radnor (Pa.) this season. Head Coach Brody Bush has his team off to a 13-3 start with their only losses being to St. Sebastian (Mass.), Manheim Township (Pa.) and Academy New Church (Pa.).
Garnet Valley (Pa.) is back on the winning track with a four-game streak of their own after dropping three straight games in mid-April. Back-to-back wins over Strath Haven and Radnor (Pa.) improved the Jaguars record to 12-3. The only three losses this season were to Haverford School (Pa.), Penn Charter (Pa.) and Conestoga (Pa.).
Defending champ Manheim Township (Pa.) wrapped up a 15-2 regular season with a win over Hill Academy II (Canada). The only losses for the Blue Streaks this season are a triple-overtime defeat to Academy New Church (Pa.) and a 16-2 loss to Malvern Prep (Pa.).
News and Notes
Will Pileggia notched his 100th career point and the game-winning goal for West Chester Rustin (Pa.) in a 10-9 overtime victory over Kennett (Pa.). The win helped even the Golden Knights record at 8-8.
You Can Make a Difference
When I founded LaxRecords.com, I could have made it into a for-profit company, but I wanted to create something different - there's plenty of recruiting coverage available. I've worked hard over the last four years to keep all content free and open to everyone. My promise to you is that I will never charge for access to the content on LaxRecords.com.
I believe LaxRecords.com is something special. It is like a library or Wikipedia. A place to discover the history of lacrosse. To my knowledge, I am the only person doing this work in lacrosse.
If everyone reading this donated, my fundraiser work would be done within an hour. But not everyone can or will donate. And that's fine.
This year, please consider making a donation of $5, $20, $50 or whatever you can to protect and sustain LaxRecords.com. Can't afford that amount? How about $2 per month? I created a way to make a monthly, recurring donation. If you donate $2 per month, that's $24 per year. Added up over many of you, that makes a huge difference and helps continue improvements.
