Last week we saw more states start to play and more teams across the region get their seasons underway, going into game mode and coming out of scrimmage mode.
As we take a look back at the week that was in the South, there was some great lacrosse played all-around with great performances and more.
Swain opened the season against Pinecrest (N.C.) with 22 saves off of 29 shots on goal to help lead his team to the 9-7 victory. His performance helped Apex Friendship start the year 1-0.
Storyline of The Week
The Thunderwolves took down the Scots 14-7 in dominating fashion. It was a big win for Oxbridge as they move to 4-0 on the season. Reece Riccardo accounted for six of those goals with five goals and one assist in the victory.
These two have met nine times since 2015, with St. Andrew’s leading the series 5-4.
Team of The Week
Allatoona (Ga.) is off to just their second 6-0 start in program history, and first since 2015. Last week, the Pirates defeated Kell (Ga.) 14-7 and North Paulding (Ga.) 10-5. They are looking to get back to the state semifinals for the first time since 2017, after losing in the quarterfinals last year.
Random News and Notes
In a 2018 SCHSL quarterfinal rematch Lexington (S.C.) defeated Mauldin (S.C.) 14-12.
Lambert (Ga.) is still going strong as they pushed their winning streak to 26 consecutive games with blow-out wins over North Forsyth (Ga.) and West Forsyth (Ga.).
Newman (La.) is off to their best start in program history in just their third season. They have a 3-0 record with all three wins coming in dominant fashion.
You Can Make a Difference
When I founded LaxRecords.com, I could have made it into a for-profit company, but I wanted to create something different - there's plenty of recruiting coverage available. I've worked hard over the last four years to keep all content free and open to everyone. My promise to you is that I will never charge for access to the content on LaxRecords.com.
I believe LaxRecords.com is something special. It is like a library or Wikipedia. A place to discover the history of lacrosse. To my knowledge, I am the only person doing this work in lacrosse.
If everyone reading this donated, my fundraiser work would be done within an hour. But not everyone can or will donate. And that's fine.
This year, please consider making a donation of $5, $20, $50 or whatever you can to protect and sustain LaxRecords.com. Can't afford that amount? How about $2 per month? I created a way to make a monthly, recurring donation. If you donate $2 per month, that's $24 per year. Added up over many of you, that makes a huge difference and helps continue improvements.
