The high school lacrosse season is getting underway, and as usual, it all starts in the South. States like Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and others have begun, and some exciting games have already taken place. While a majority of the South started, and teams may be a few games in, the season in Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina will get even more underway this week.
Looking back at last week, there was a lot of exciting action in the South and most came from Florida and Georgia as some exciting games and performances were witnessed.
This week we have two players to highlight - Norman and George Pitt from Admiral Farragut (Fla.). The twins from Ontario have been tearing it up early on for the Blue Jackets since transferring in from IMG Academy (Fla.).
Through five games Norman Pitt has 24 points, and George Pitt has 22. The majority of those points were earned last week when Admiral Farragut defeated Lakeland (Fla.) 10-6, East Lake10-6, and Tampa Catholic (Fla.) 17-4.
Norman had eight points (7G,1A) against Lakeland, five points (4G,1A) against East Lake, and eight points (4G,4A) against Tampa Catholic. George tallied eight points (4G,4A) against Lakeland, three points (1G,2A) against East Lake, and seven points (3G,4A) against Tampa Catholic.
Storyline of The Week
One of the biggest storylines occurred in Georgia where Milton (Ga.) defeated Pope (Ga.) 8-7 in a low-scoring, double-overtime affair. It was the second year in a row these two teams needed overtime to decide the game.
With Pope leading by one in the fourth, Milton scored late in the game to force overtime. Junior Air Force commit Will Stax scored the double-overtime game winner for the Eagles. After this game, Milton moved to 2-0, and Pope dropped to 0-3.
In an inter-state battle, Franklin (Tenn.) blew out Dunbar (Ky.) by a score of 26-1 to get their season started. The 2018 Tennessee Club semifinalist handed the 2018 KLA semifinalist their worst loss in program history.
Team of The Week
The team of the week is Wando (S.C.). The South Carolina powerhouse got their season started on a high note with three dominating victories. The Warriors beat St. James (S.C.) 17-1, Socastee (S.C.) 24-1, and Porter-Gaud (S.C.) 12-6. Wando has won four-straight state championships and looking for their fifth this season.
Lambert (Ga.) still holds the longest winning streak in the South as they pushed it to 24 over the weekend. Mountain Brook (Ala.) holds the second-longest winning streak in the South at 15, and they start to play this week.
Ponte Vedra (Fla.), one of the favorites to win the FHSAA Championship, got their season started with two dominating wins over Gulf Breeze (Fla.) and Mandarin (Fla.).
