Rob Ambrose is back. The architect of the Brother Rice (Mich.) dynasty is the new head coach at Bronxville (N.Y.), according to Lohud.com. Approval for Ambrose’s hire happened on Jan. 17. He was hired to replace Tim Horgan whose exit from the program is unclear, according to the report.
Ambrose won 380 games with Brother Rice in two separate stints. He coached the Warriors from 1983 to 1984, then returned in 1995 where he remained until 2013. Ambrose won 11 consecutive championships from 2003 to 2013 when he stepped down. According to Lohud, Ambrose stepped down at Brother Rice to open his business’s New York office in 2013. Overall, Ambrose won 16 championships with Brother Rice. Ambrose is taking over a Bronxville program that went 9-9 last season but has been a power in Section 1.
Horgan went 168-51 and won four Section 1 titles since taking over the program in 2008. He took the team from 11-8 in his first season to three-straight 20-win seasons.
“I was asked to walk away,” Horgan said this week. “I am disappointed by the way it ended, very disappointed by the way it ended. I do not think I was treated fairly. This is a tough time to be a coach.”
The Broncos lost just six games from 2011 to 2013. In 2014, Horgan led Bronxville to the 2014 Class C championship with a 13-10 victory over Cazenovia (N.Y.).
You Can Make a Difference
When I founded LaxRecords.com, I could have made it into a for-profit company, but I wanted to create something different - there's plenty of recruiting coverage available. I've worked hard over the last four years to keep all content free and open to everyone. My promise to you is that I will never charge for access to the content on LaxRecords.com.
I believe LaxRecords.com is something special. It is like a library or Wikipedia. A place to discover the history of lacrosse. To my knowledge, I am the only person doing this work in lacrosse.
If everyone reading this donated, my fundraiser work would be done within an hour. But not everyone can or will donate. And that's fine.
This year, please consider making a donation of $5, $20, $50 or whatever you can to protect and sustain LaxRecords.com. Can't afford that amount? How about $2 per month? I created a way to make a monthly, recurring donation. If you donate $2 per month, that's $24 per year. Added up over many of you, that makes a huge difference and helps continue improvements.
