I’m only including individual stories in the most popular category this year. The Players to Watch series would easily take the nod as most popular.
No. 2 on the list is the Lacrosse Camp listing. I augmented this in 2018 with the addition of Lacrosse Showcases and links to some popular books on recruiting*. I intend to continue to augment this feature as I believe it’s a valuable resource for the community.
*Full disclosure I use my Amazon affiliate link for the books, so buying a book through that pages helps support LaxRecords.
Rounding out the Top 3, which is impressive as it started around the same time as the Players to Watch series, the partnership with Prospect CNNCT resonated. Many players submitted their CNNCT profiles and those players feature a special callout on the Players to Watch list.
I Love New York
New Yorkers continue to account for the most visitors to LaxRecords, almost doubling up No. 2 Pennsylvania.
Landmarks Hit in 2018
There were several milestones achieved thanks to you this season.
The LaxRecords social media accounts surpassed 5,000 total followers this year. Twitter leads the way with more than 4,000 followers.
Instagram achieved its own milestone just last month as it hit 1,000 followers.
I did not track web traffic for the first year and a half, so what the actual number of page views it’s received it likely higher, but since I’ve been tracking, the website surpassed 1 million page views in January 2018.
Donations reached an all-time high, raising more than $1,000 on the year. That’s directly related to you and your generosity. As a thank you to all donors, I created a donors-only newsletter that provides some behind-the-scenes updates and previews of upcoming stories.
What’s New In 2018
I launched a shop through Teespring and started selling t-shirts and other items. It’s another way to support LaxRecords, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t do it because I wanted to wear a LaxRecords.com t-shirt.
Faceoffs became a new stat tracked and listed this season and the 2018 Stylax Stat Leaders has quite a few players from 2018. I also added game, season and career stat leaders to every state page.
Another addition to every state page is a list of every state champion that I’ve been able to find. With this new addition came the added stat of the most championships by program and by head coach.
The yearly trek to Baltimore for the Under Armour All-America weekend continued. You can still check out all the photos from the weekend over on SmugMug.
In addition to Under Armour, Mike attended the GEICO Lacrosse Invitational. You can find photos from each game over on SmugMug.
I already have plans to attend a few games in the midwest during the 2019 season in addition to adding a few contributors to the site, who will also report for different areas of the country.
Midwest contributor Michael Ward is passionate about lacrosse and is my new co-host on the weekly podcast. As he gets more comfortable on the site, you can continue to expect great things.
Expect a more robust 2019 season preview starting in January in addition to more content throughout the season.
You Can Make a Difference
When I founded LaxRecords.com, I could have made it into a for-profit company, but I wanted to create something different - there's plenty of recruiting coverage available. I've worked hard over the last four years to keep all content free and open to everyone. My promise to you is that I will never charge for access to the content on LaxRecords.com.
I believe LaxRecords.com is something special. It is like a library or Wikipedia. A place to discover the history of lacrosse. To my knowledge, I am the only person doing this work in lacrosse.
If everyone reading this donated, my fundraiser work would be done within an hour. But not everyone can or will donate. And that's fine.
This year, please consider making a donation of $5, $20, $50 or whatever you can to protect and sustain LaxRecords.com. Can't afford that amount? How about $2 per month? I created a way to make a monthly, recurring donation. If you donate $2 per month, that's $24 per year. Added up over many of you, that makes a huge difference and helps continue improvements.
