Berkman took over Florida’s No. 1 spot in assists last season, totaling 204 during his first three years in high school. The Syracuse commit has a chance to take over the top spot in career points by the end of his senior year. Berkman has 385 points and needs 98 to break the current record held by former St. Andrew’s (Boca Raton, Fla.) standout Conor Whipple. Berkman has scored at least 108 points in each of his first three seasons and average 128.3 points per season.
Barring unforeseen circumstances, Berkman will be the 76th person to reach 400 points in his career this season. Should he become Florida’s record-holder, Berkman could climb into the Top 25 all-time.
He had quite the junior season, setting several state records en route to 152 point season. Berkman set the state record for most assists in a season with 86, averaging 3.91 assists per game. He also broke the record for most assists in a game with an 11 assist outing against Timber Creek (Orlando, Fla.) on Feb. 15. His 17 points in that game place him second all-time for most points in a single game. Former Pine Crest (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) standout Harris Stolzenberg holds the record with 19, set on April 4, 2012, against Taravella (Fla.).
West Orange went 17-3 last season and has improved its win-loss record in each of Berkman’s three seasons.
